How we started

Colten Care was established more than 30 years ago in the beautiful town of Lymington. However, our roots go back even further to 1971 when our founders Adrian Otten and John Colwell formed Colten Developments, our sister company and development arm. It is the combination of ‘Colwell’ and ‘Otten’ that makes up the name ‘Colten’.

Our first home was a Monmouth House, a listed building on Lymington High Street. In March 2014 we made the sad decision to close the home as the infrastructure did not lend itself to the high standards of care delivery set across the Colten Care portfolio of homes. Our second and third homes were, respectively, Court Lodge in Lymington and Woodpeckers in Brockenhurst. These initial homes were luxury residential dwellings that benefited from significant building and extension work to re-design them into care homes. Since then we have continued to work closely with our sister company Colten Developments building purpose-built homes, extending our family of homes to 19 beautifully appointed properties across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire.

We are delighted that there are a number of people within our organisation who have been working with us now for over 20 years.
