Life begins at Colten Care . . . With activities for all The prospect of moving into a Care Home may lead you to believe that you have to give up an independent and socially active life, but nothing could be further from the truth. We at Colten Care offer many and varied activities to enrich and fulfil each day. Each Home employs an Activity Organiser who creates a tailor-made programme of activities and events that varies from month to month. When arranging the activities, the needs of individual residents in the Homes are taken into consideration. Exercise classes, quizzes, yoga, memory box, live entertainments, bridge, coffee mornings, skittles, quoits, art and crafts, crosswords...the list is boundless and endless. We also welcome the visiting library, the Clergy and guest speakers. Four times a year we have a themed event in each Home such as a cultural weekend when the food, drink, dress and entertainment from other countries can be enjoyed. We have mini-coaches with drivers who with the Activity Organisers will take you to many places of interest e.g. National Trust Houses, trips to the coast, or to sporting events. During the trips out our residents' safety is of paramount importance and each Activity Organiser is a fully trained Registered First Aider. Success of Social Carer. . . Leading the way In 2006 Colten Care introduced a new and innovative scheme to complement the established team of dedicated Activity Organisers. . . . Social Care. This seed of an idea has now grown and blossomed and since the launch, 200 members of staff have been inducted. All our Homes employ a team of Social Carers to work seven days per week. To our knowledge we are the only company in the South of England who employ this special person each day to visit our frailer, less able Residents and bring some ‘sunshine’ in to their lives. The Activities are tailor made to suit each resident, and could be anything from social chats, hand massages, wheelchair walks to one to one games and quizzes. The benefits are phenomenal - Residents are stimulated, more responsive, happier and calmer during the day and ultimately, sleeping better at night. Families feel comforted that their loved ones are receiving the best possible care. All the Activity Organisers and Social Carers are supported by the Company Activity Coordinator, Karen Burdon. She is both mentor and trainer to our team, constantly striving to improve all our Activities. This is evidenced in the improved CQC ratings throughout all our Homes. We believe that the holistic approach to care is the only way. . .the Colten Care way. Find out more...
