Careers at Court LodgeBUILDING A TOP PERFORMING TEAM

Colten Care has a reputation as a provider of quality care.

There are five key principles that will ensure the continuation of our reputation:

  • recruiting the right kind of people
  • investing in quality training for all staff
  • rewarding staff well for commitment and qualification
  • participating in the training of external students
  • keeping practices and new developments in the care of the elderly under constant review

Training

Training is provided for all staff at every level with an extensive programme of internal and external training sessions and seminars. The core of our training is the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 1, 2 and 3. Staff at different levels in the organisation can undertake an NVQ programme.

  • Domestic staff: NVQ level 1 and 2
  • Health care assistants: NVQ level 2 and 3
  • Qualified nurses and health care assistants with an NVQ qualification: staff at these levels can undertake the assessor's award enabling them to train other staff on the programme.
For the NVQ in Care we have our own registered centre and expect the majority of our health care assistants to be qualified to level 2.
  • Matron/managers can undertake the Registered Managers Award (RMA) or other recognised management qualifications, eg CMS, DMS, MBA.

Post Registration Education and Practice (PREP)

Qualified nurses must undertake a minimum level of study to ensure their continued registration as a nurse. Whilst they are accountable for ensuring that this happens, Colten Care is happy to assist and funds all relevant training and the nurse is paid whilst undertaking the training.

Catering

We have developed links with local colleges and this has enabled us to place trainee chefs to allow them to gain an appropriate qualification.

External students

We continually encourage participation in the training of student nurses from both Bournemouth and Southampton University. We also encourage students from other social care courses including police cadets on placement. Most students are in touch with the latest research and papers in their own field and so we view the experience as a two way learning process.

The auditing process

Operationally we keep our practices under review by a self-auditing process. Our Human Resources department similarly evaluates our training and educational needs and achievements, keeping them under constant review.

This is the framework that underpins our claim to be a provider of quality care - through the recruitment, training and development of quality professional people.
