Colten Care places great emphasis on providing a high standard of catering within its Care Homes and was duly rewarded by winning the prestigious Chef of The Year award at the National Care Awards and was also a finalist in the Chef Guild Awards. Fergus Davitt, Hotel Services Manager since 1994, ensures that all food is prepared by professionally qualified chefs producing wholesome, home cooked, traditional fare, using quality local produce, and strives to provide a balanced nutritious menu which includes catering for special diets. To ensure variety of choice and to limit repetition a 4 week seasonal menu is provided, offering a choice of three main course dishes together with a daily vegetarian option. A pre-lunch glass of sherry or wine is very popular! Residents are given the choice to enjoy meals in the relaxed atmosphere of the dining room served by our staff, or in the privacy of their own room. Set meal times provide an opportunity for residents to meet up and socialise; nevertheless, meals can be taken at any time of the day that a resident wishes. Beverages and snacks are also available 24 hours a day. Regular residents' meetings are held where they are encouraged to express their views on the quality of the food in the Home and, also to suggest menu options. The Chef will also meet each resident individually to discuss dietary requirements and preferences. Summer barbeques and our popular themed events not only help make mealtimes a real highlight and something to look forward to, but also provide a good talking point in the run up to, during and, after the event.
