TV’s Dr Hilary Jones likens £7m care home to five star hotel
November 04, 2011
A new £7 million care home in North Dorset which has created 85 new jobs has been likened to a five star hotel.
TV’s Dr Hilary Jones was speaking during a launch open day at the 59-bed Newstone House in Sturminster Newton.

The broadcaster and author described the home’s state-of-the-art facilities, including a cinema, sun therapy room and an indoor potting shed and workshop, as “absolutely superb.”
He added: “This is like the Savoy for people who need extra care and attention.
“It’s a wonderfully warm and welcoming home and I know people are going to be very happy here.”
Newstone House is built on the site of the former Creamery in the centre of Sturminster Newton.
It is the 18th home to be opened by Colten Care which has quality care homes in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.
The family owned company was founded in 1989 and now employs 1,300 people.
Ian Hudson, Managing Director, told guests at the public open day: “We have no outside shareholders to satisfy and intend to remain that way for generations to come.
“We adhere to the principle of ‘care before profit’ and are very proud of our staff and our homes.”
The 59 bedrooms at Newstone House include 31 built specifically to care for residents with dementia.
Initially 50 new jobs have been created with the home’s opening. The complement of 85 staff will be reached when Newstone House is at full capacity.
