Demolition of Lymington ‘eyesore’ gets underway
January 20, 2012
DEMOLITION of Lymington’s derelict Linden House is underway in preparation for work to begin on a £8.5 million ‘trophy’ care home.
Demolition crews arrived on the New Street site this week with the former residential home expected to be razed to the ground by the end of February.
Building of Colten Care’s largest care home to date will then begin in earnest by sister company, Colten Developments.
The dedicated dementia care home will be the 20th to be opened by Colten Care.
The family owned company already operates three care homes in Lymington (Monmouth House, Court Lodge and Belmore Lodge).
Between 80 and 100 new jobs will be created when the 60-bed care home opens in early summer 2013. It will cover 4,000 square metres.
Mark Aitchison, Group Finance Director, said: “I suspect many people will be pleased to see the back of what has become such a prominent eyesore in Lymington.
“Much work has gone into the design of the new home to enable the best care to be provided.
“This is going to be a fantastic home and it’s great to be starting work on site and to see our vision begin to take shape.“
Founded in 1989, Colten Care is based in Western Road, Lymington, and currently operates 18 quality care and dementia homes in Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire.
The company offers a range of services spanning residential care to nursing care and dementia and employs 1,300 people with an annual turnover of £35 million.
Work is currently underway on its 19th home, a 56-bed specialist dementia care home in Winchester costing £7 million. St Catherine’s View will open this spring creating 80 new jobs.
