Flying high with nursing home Abbotts Barton’s help
February 21, 2011
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance will be flying higher and longer after receiving a donation for nearly £2,250, which was raised by residents, staff and friends of Colten Care’s nursing home Abbotts Barton, situated in Winchester, Hampshire.
On February 8, a cheque for £2,248.88 was presented by Denise Smyth, Abbotts Barton’s Home Manager to June Leatheam, Community Fundraiser for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, during a champagne reception held at the nursing home.
“We are thrilled to have raised so much money for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance,” says Smyth. “It is a great charity and does an outstanding job. We just hope that none of ever have to use it, but at least if we do, we know we will be in good hands. Everyone has been so generous with their support and the residents have really enjoyed helping with the fundraising here at the nursing home.”
Over the past 12 months, Abbotts Barton has held various events to raise money including hosting an Irish Gala Dinner, a Falconry display, a “Come Dine With Us” evening as well as a balloon race, raffles and a Christmas Fayre.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, which set up operations in 2007, often provides life-saving care in response to road traffic collisions and collapses. The charity has one helicopter based at Thruxton in Hampshire and to date the charity has flown 2,696 missions.
