Braemar Lodge in Salisbury raises more than £1,900 for charity

February 01, 2011

Residents, relatives, staff and friends of Colten Care’s nursing home, Braemar Lodge in Salisbury, Hampshire are celebrating after raising an incredible £1,900 for a local charity last year.

During the past year, the nursing home has held garden fetes, gala dinners and raffles, which relatives, friends and locals have been able to get involved in. Residents have also been hard at work creating jewellery boxes, book markers and even making home-made preserves during Arts and Crafts sessions, which have then been sold to raise money.

“We were absolutely thrilled when we added up just how much money Braemar Lodge had raised for charity last year,” says Karen Burdon, Colten Care’s Activities organiser. “Everyone has been so generous with their support and it is wonderful to know that the money is going to such worthy causes. Fundraising gives the residents a sense of purpose and makes them feel as if they are giving something back to the community at the same time. Our aim now is to try and beat last year’s amount and raise even more money in 2011.”

Naomi House, a children’s hospice, which is based in Winchester and provides support to children and young people with conditions that mean they are unlikely to live to become adults, was Braemar Lodge’s chosen charity to benefit from its fundraising.
