Lance Corporal Adams had only recently returned from a Tour of Duty in Afghanistan with the Right Flank 1st Battalion of the Scots Guards.  Alison Fearnley, home manager of Court Lodge commented that 'We felt privileged that Colin Adams had taken the time out of his busy schedule to drive to Hampshire in order to meet Kit Thurston to present him with a blouson from the Scots Guards.  He talked to many of the residents, who really enjoyed his visit'.

Arthur 'Kit' Thurston originally enlisted in 1933 with the Scots Guards, having lied about his age being just 17 at the time.  He left the Guards after four years, but was called back inot the Guards at the outbreak of World War II in 1939, wherein he bacme a Physical Training Instructor and a founder member of the Guards Reconnaisance Division.

He later passed through Sandhurst to be commisioned as a Lieutenant and after being wounded in Nijmegan, was repatriated to the UK where, after being demobbed in 1946, was awarded the honorary rank of Captain.
