Originally an imposing private residence, Woodpeckers has been tastefully extended and adapted to provide every modern convenience, while still retaining a homely atmosphere. The Home is situated in the village of Brockenhurst in the heart of the beautiful New Forest and is within walking distance of local shops, the church and doctor's surgery.

Home Details

At Woodpeckers there is a choice of comfortable lounges where you can socialise, watch television or just spend some quiet time; and an attractive conservatory where many great activities take place. It overlooks the pretty landscaped garden which has been purposely designed for wheelchair users as well as walkers. The dining room provides waitress service and choices of excellent home made food; the meals are balanced and nutritious and special diets can also be provided. Cakes are the speciality here!

The bedrooms are tastefully furnished and most have en-suite facilities for privacy and convenience. You can make your room as homely as you like by bringing your own pictures, ornaments and small pieces of furniture.

  • Home Manager - Jacqueline Reddell

    Jacqueline ReddellJacqueline trained as a Nurse at St Luke’s Hospital and the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. She qualified as a nurse in 1976, and nursed in British Military Hospitals abroad. Jacqueline started working in the field of elderly care in 1989 and joined Colten Care in 2000. Promoted to Matron in 2003, Jacqueline has undertaken and passed the Foundation Degree in Care Home Management.

  • Head of Care - Daniela Buzatu

    Daniela BuzatuDaniela Buzatu is an experienced registered nurse, with an NVQ level 4 . Daniela began her nursing career in Romania, she has been working in the care of the elderly since 2004. She has a keen interest in teaching and is a qualified “Train The Trainer”. She has a special interest in care with older people. Daniela joined Woodpeckers in July 2010.

  • Activity Organiser - Shirley Smith

    Shirley SmithShirley joined Woodpeckers in 2005. She trained in Scotland as a Teacher, but on returning to the profession after a decade abroad, she quickly realised that the profession was no longer her vocation. Shirley carried out voluntary work for a local Care Group, mainly driving older people to doctor and hospital appointments before taking up the full time post of Activity Organiser at Woodpeckers.

  • Chef - David Jaques

    David Jaques Chef Woodpeckers

    David joined Colten Care in 1991 working at Court Lodge. In 1992 he attended Catering College where he attained his NVQ 2 & 3. During 1994 until 2000 he was seconded as Mobile Chef covering all our Dorset Homes. During this time David specialised in Cake Decorating. David was promoted to Head Chef at Abbotts Barton in 2001 after the successful opening David has worked at Belmore Lodge, Avon Reach and now Woodpeckers. His is now the longest serving Chef for Colten Care.

  • Chef - Paul Bale

    Chef Paul Bale WoodpeckersPaul Bale joined Colten Care in 2004 having worked in various Restaurants and hotels in the Bournemouth and Poole area. He began by working as a kitchen domestic at Canford Chase. Paul showed a real interest in cooking by helping the chef whenever possible. In 2006 he began his chef training both internally in other Colten Care homes and externally at Bournemouth and Poole Catering College. He completed in training in 2009 when he gained his NVQ level 2&3 in Hospitality Catering.

  • Nursing home converts TV lounge into Christmas grotto
