Rock Choir Rock Woodpeckers Nursing Home
July 29, 2011
Rock Choir, which recently appeared on ITV’s series “The Choir That Rocks” brought some stardust to Colten Care’s nursing home Woodpeckers, situated in Brockenhurst, Hampshire when its members treated residents and staff to an exclusive concert last week.

The choir, which is the UK’s largest and most contemporary choir, sings a combination of Motown, gospel and pop. On the night they performed a medley of songs including the gospel number “Oh Happy Day”, a song which the residents had been enthusiastically practising all week so they could join in with the finale. The evening was organised by Shirley Smith, Woodpecker’s Activity Organiser, who is also a member of the New Forest Rock Choir.

“It was such a wonderful and happy occasion,” says Jacqueline Reddell, Home Manager of Woodpeckers. “While some of the residents didn’t know quite what to expect beforehand, it wasn’t long before everyone in the room had joined in with the singing and a few of the residents even started dancing. The songs were so catchy that many of the residents have been humming away since the night. It was a huge success and an event we would love to repeat.”
Rock Choir will be performing daily three times a day at the New Forest Show in Brockenhurst, Hampshire.
