Abbey View Celebrates 65 Years of Marriage with Special Vow Renewal

26 September 2025

Abbey View Care Home was delighted to celebrate the 65th wedding anniversary of resident Gerald and his wife Judith.

The couple first met while studying at Manchester University and went on to build a life together in London, where Gerald trained as an accountant and Judith worked as a teacher. After retirement, they settled in Sherborne, sharing a love of travel and classical music.

To mark this remarkable milestone, Gerald and Judith renewed their wedding vows in Abbey View’s Quiet Lounge, officiated by the Reverend Canon Charles Innes-Mitchell from Sherborne Abbey.

The couple read their vows aloud to one another, before sharing Holy Communion and a celebratory toast with staff and fellow residents.

The occasion continued with a special lunch prepared by Chef Manny, including a stunning blue sapphire-themed cake, symbolising 65 years of marriage. Gerald and Judith were also thrilled to receive a congratulatory card from Buckingham Palace.

When asked the secret to their long and happy marriage, Judith giggled and said: “I think patience,” while Gerald added simply, “Love.”
