Abbey View Residents Mark World Art Day

16 April 2026

Abbey View marked World Art Day with a small in-house showcase, as residents came together to share artwork and creative projects with one another over tea.

The session highlighted a range of personal styles and techniques, offering residents the opportunity to display their work and talk about the inspiration behind it.

Jenny shared several paint-by-numbers pieces, including a vibrant floral work displayed in her room and a landscape of Carn Ingli in Wales, a place closely linked to family memories. Her daughter, Susanna, spoke about Jenny’s wider creative interests, from sewing and cooking to gardening and crosswords. Jenny encouraged others to try painting, saying: “If I can do it, any of you could also give it a try.”

Janet presented her pointillism work, created using carefully placed dots of colour to form detailed images. Her technique prompted curiosity and conversation, with residents keen to learn more. Janet has offered to demonstrate the method at a future Art Club session at the home.

Barbara shared a painting of poppies set against a coastal scene, inspired by a journey with her husband and a spontaneous stop at a scenic viewpoint.

Companion Team Leader Bev said: “World Art Day gave us a lovely opportunity to celebrate creativity within the home. It was really positive to see residents sharing their work and inspiring one another in such a natural way.”

Following the session, conversations continued over tea, with several residents expressing interest in future art-based activities being added to the programme.
