Abbey View Refreshes Poppy Cascade for Remembrance
Residents at Abbey View in Sherborne have revitalised their long-standing Poppy Cascade display, originally created during the COVID lockdown with contributions from residents, families, and the wider community. After five years on display, the net needed some attention to ensure it remained as striking as ever.
The home was recently gifted a wooden war horse and soldier by the local Countrymen’s Club, allowing the display to be moved to the front reception area, where it can be enjoyed by more residents and visitors.
The Knit and Natter group at Abbey View had paused for a time, but the arrival of keen knitter Joyce, along with her daughter Nicola, breathed new life into the club. Their first project was to knit additional poppies for the Poppy Cascade. Residents spent an afternoon attaching the new poppies, and Abbey View’s gardener Joan helped assemble the refreshed display.
Companionship Team Leader Bev said, “The Poppy Cascade is a meaningful way for our residents to mark Remembrance Day and reflect on those who gave so much. Seeing everyone come together to refresh it has been very special.”
The Poppy Cascade now stands proudly by the reception, serving as a vibrant reminder of sacrifice, community, and remembrance.
