A Stylish Trip Down Memory Lane

28 October 2025

A themed session on vintage fashion invited residents to explore treasured garments and share memories

When Jan Millward visits, there is always a gentle sense of anticipation as residents make their way to the lounge to discover the latest treasures from her remarkable collection. Her sessions blend storytelling, poetry and carefully chosen artefacts, each piece carrying its own history and charm.

This week’s theme, Vintage Fashion, offered a particularly engaging showcase. Jan presented everything from beautifully crafted hats and classic outerwear to the more eccentric garments that have gathered stories of their own over the decades. The opportunity to handle and try on selected items brought a playful energy to the room, sparking conversation and warm laughter.

A memorable moment came when resident Sheila Yates’ son, James, joined the group. Naturally reserved, he surprised his mother by joining in the fun, earning delighted smiles as he gamely modelled an apron. Later, HCA Rakesh added to the good humour by stepping forward to try a dress, much to the residents’ amusement.
