Abbotts Barton Hosts Community Dog Walk for National Dog Day

Abbotts Barton Care Home in Winchester marked National Dog Day by hosting a community dog walk, inviting local residents and dog owners to enjoy an hour of exercise and fresh air.

Participants met on the village church green, just a few miles from the care home, before walking along the River Itchen and through the surrounding water meadows. The route offered plenty of space for dogs to explore, with opportunities for a quick dip in the river along the way.

Stephanie from Winchester Hospice joined the walk with her dog, Silver. This year, Abbotts Barton is fundraising for the hospice, and events such as this are helping to raise both money and awareness for the charity.

The walk concluded back at Abbotts Barton’s garden, where participants were offered refreshments and snacks. Dogs were treated to water and dog-friendly treats, while owners enjoyed hot and cold drinks and cookies.

Stephanie said: “This is perfect dog walking weather. I’ve only recently moved to Winchester, so it’s great to discover new places to take Silver.”
