Abbotts Barton Residents Enjoy Dance School Performance

2 February 2026

Abbotts Barton Care Home welcomed a delightful hour of dance entertainment from Winchester City Dance School, bringing energy, talent, and artistry to the residents’ afternoon.

Students of all ages, including the youngest at just eight years old, performed a series of dances they had prepared for their exams. Grouped by “grades,” the dancers showcased the skills they had honed throughout the year, impressing residents with their poise, precision, and passion.

Some residents, who had been keen ballet dancers in their youth, were quick to spot standout performers. Ruth commented, “They had such poise, and their arm positions were perfect.”

After the performance, the students mingled with the audience, answering questions and sharing insights into their routines.

Many explained that they attend lessons every Wednesday and dedicate extra time on Sundays to rehearse, especially when preparing for exams. Several of the dancers had been learning ballet since the age of two, demonstrating years of commitment and dedication.

Betty added, “I loved the girls in the red and white dressing, dancing to Mary Poppins. They were a joy to watch.”

The visit offered residents a chance to enjoy live performance up close, reminisce about their own experiences with dance, and celebrate the talent and enthusiasm of the younger generation.

Abbotts Barton’s partnership with Winchester City Dance School continues to highlight the care home’s commitment to engaging, culturally enriching activities for its residents.
