Freda Smith’s wish was to visit Swanage, which had very fond memories throughout her life for her. So after taxi, train and bus, for nearly three hours, we arrived in Swanage. The weather was dry but windy and grey. We walked from the bus station to the sea front reminiscing about the shops and cafes still there. We walked along the promenade and chatted about where she used to stay and what she did with her family there. We were able to look over the bay to where she stayed but it was too far to walk to. Freda remembers her daughter’s teacher Mrs Vast telling her daughter off for eating a ice-cream walking along. We had fish and chips for lunch at Harry Ramsden’s, followed by a ice-cream. Freda wrote postcards to her family and posted them in Swanage.
