Remembering World War II

12 June 2024

Our residents were treated to a fascinating talk this afternoon, from local artist and historian Robert Truscott.

Robert brought in a small part of his extensive collection of military uniforms and equipment. He passed around various objects explaining how they were used and how the designs had been adapted and improved on over the course of the war.

Many residents recalled where their fathers had fought while others remembered the uniforms of National Service. John, pictured with a German soldier’s helmet, was amazed at the weight of all the equipment that an average soldier wore.

Pauline Elliott said “It was so interesting, and Robert is so knowledgeable. I learnt so much.”
