Amberwood House Celebrates Ice Cream Day

20 July 2026

Residents at Amberwood House were transported to the seaside as the home celebrated National Ice Cream Day with a fun-filled afternoon inspired by the great British coast.

The Companionship Team recreated the atmosphere of a traditional seaside resort with a variety of classic games and activities. Residents put their skills to the test by racing remote-control cars in place of dodgems before trying their luck at a traditional hook-a-duck game, bringing plenty of laughter and friendly competition.

No trip to the seaside would be complete without ice cream, and a visit from Mikey’s Ice Cream Van proved to be one of the day’s highlights. Residents enjoyed choosing their favourite flavours, with many opting for the classic addition of a chocolate Flake as they relaxed together and reminisced about summer holidays by the sea.

The celebration was also enjoyed by team members, who were treated to an ice cream as part of the home’s commitment to staff wellbeing, making it an occasion everyone could share.

Mavis Croft, wife of resident Mike, said: “It was a great idea having the ice cream van come to us.”

Companionship Team Leader Maddee said: “We wanted to recreate the fun of a traditional seaside day out for National Ice Cream Day. From the games to the visit from Mikey’s Ice Cream Van, it was wonderful to see residents, families and staff enjoying the simple pleasures of summer together.”

The afternoon highlighted how imaginative activities can bring familiar experiences to residents, creating opportunities to socialise, reminisce and enjoy the spirit of summer without leaving home.
