It’s All About Words

Words can be spoken and forgotten, but letters can be re-read and memories brought back.
Here at Amberwood, we spoke about remembering our pen pals. We asked our sister home, Brook View, if they would be interested in becoming our new pen pals. The response was a resounding yes! So, we got to work. Dot wrote her letter first, which will be delivered to Brook View along with all the others. Meanwhile, Betsy’s pen pal lives in Australia; they went to school together. Her friend emigrated when she married and they were afraid they’d lose contact, but the power of words and letters kept them together. Inge wrote a letter to her sister who also lives in Australia. “It’ll take two weeks to get there!” she exclaimed. Judy’s pen pal lives in Hawaii; they have been writing for many years – Judy likes to tell her about everything great that goes on here.
One of our HCA’s, Molly, told us about writing a letter to the Queen for a school project, and getting a reply from her! She still has the letter packed away in a safe space.
