Mr Kipling, we are coming for you…

Once a week, we put on our aprons and head to the kitchen for some baking.

This week, Denise requested her favourite dessert, Battenberg, which is not an easy bake, but we were all eager to tackle the challenge.

Denise, Margaret, Mary, Marjorie, and Nora measured and mixed the ingredients together. Mary and Denise were in charge of the pink layer, while Margaret, Nora, and Marjorie handled the white layer. Each layer was poured into the baking tins and leveled before being given to our chef, Jacob, to bake. Jacob commented that they rose beautifully and had a fantastic consistency.

With part one completed perfectly, tomorrow’s challenge will be to slice, layer, and join the cake to create the most visually appealing Battenberg ever seen.

We’re looking forward to a delicious tea and cake at three!
