Nurturing Our Roses

At the beginning of the year, our care home began a refurbishment project for our lounge and dining area, which also involved a large extension that would disrupt the existing garden layout.

We had a variety of well-established plants, vines, and rose bushes that were at risk of being affected by the new extension.

To preserve these plants, our gardener, Lyn, took great care in uprooting the majority of them. She asked families of our residents if they could adopt these plants if they could provide a suitable home. One of our vines found a new home with a family member, who then generously donated it to the Blandford Museum Gardens.

With the assistance of Ali, one of our gardening-loving residents, we replanted one of the two rose bushes. Throughout the winter months, Lyn nurtured these roses in her polytunnel, ensuring their well-being. Ali was so happy to help plant the rose bush. The remaining rose bush will be planted at a later date, once the garden refurbishment is complete.
