Welcome To Our Garden Retreat – Obelisk

It was 11am and the garden temperature had already risen to a barmy 30 degrees. The sun was poking out from behind the oak tree onto the walled garden, or as we like to call it – Our Retreat.
We assembled in our garden retreat with our gardener Lyn to enjoy a demo of how to create an Obelisk from Willow to support our gorgeous, scented David Austin Bathsheba Rose. We enjoyed a talk from Lyn where she explained the subtle apricot-pink and soft yellow colours that have been on the rose before talking about the superb floral myrrh fragrance, with hints of honey and Tea. In the absence of the rose Justine passed around the Rosemary to enjoy the different scents of the garden.
As the construction of the Obelisk began, Lyn explained the different tools used and the challenges of the soil in the secret garden as it is very sandy.
Pam always grew vegetables and enjoyed feeling the soil and commented on the texture of the soil being a challenge. Ali asked lots of questions and really enjoyed understanding the process as he is a big fan of the roses. As always Lyn tried her hand at Latin and the residents laughed with a comment being made by Gwen that it was “Lyn Latinising” which had a round of applause from all.
As lunchtime approached, we made our way into the dining room for a refreshing drink with our lunch before returning to the secret garden to see the final stages of construction.
We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the creation and talking through all the stages and to show our appreciation we gave Lyn a huge round of applause.
