The Avon Cliff Players take centre stage for World Theatre Day

27 March 2025

Residents at Avon Cliff marked World Theatre Day in spectacular fashion as their in-house theatre troupe, ‘The Avon Cliff Players,’ came together to create a unique ‘play in a day.’

In the days leading up to the performance, the group collaborated to establish a storyline and setting for their production. The chosen scenes—a Bahamian beach, a dark and mysterious cave, and an enchanted forest—set the stage for an imaginative and entertaining play. To bring these settings to life, residents crafted sets using cardboard and paint, adding a creative and personal touch to the production.

On the morning of the performance, the troupe finalised the storyline, selected songs, and cast their characters. The resulting play, titled The Bahamian Bear Scare, featured an eclectic mix of roles, including an evil crime lord bear, playful monkeys, kind fairies, and even a barmaid. By the afternoon, the cast was in full costume, ready to bring their story to life with props and set pieces.

The performance concluded on a high note with a vibrant finale of There’s No Business Like Show Business, which had the audience clapping along in delight.

Avon Cliff’s Home Manager, Theresa Sales, praised the show, saying: “It was a wonderful theatre play; our residents really enjoyed it. Well done to our Companionship Team Leader Elise and her team who oversaw production.”

Following another successful performance from The Avon Cliff Players, excitement is already building for their next theatrical adventure.
