Avon Cliff Residents Join Bourne Free Pride Parade in Tribute to Former Resident

Residents and team members from Avon Cliff in Bournemouth proudly took part in this year’s Bourne Free Pride Parade, marking their third consecutive year representing Colten Care at the event — and doing so this time in honour of a much-loved former resident.
The home’s continued involvement in the parade was inspired by resident Patrick, whose heartfelt wish in 2023 was to attend Pride.
His enthusiasm and joy on that day left a lasting impression, and earlier this year — before he sadly passed away — Patrick made one final request to Companion Team Leader Elise: “Make sure we get out on parade — no matter what.”

“We were determined to keep that promise,” said Elise. “Patrick was so proud to be involved, and this year we wanted to make sure he was with us in spirit.”
To honour him, Colten Care produced special T-shirts featuring a photo of Patrick from last year’s parade, pictured proudly alongside the Avon Cliff team. Residents also waved specially produced Pride flags as they joined the colourful procession through Bournemouth town centre.

The atmosphere was as joyful and inclusive as ever. Resident Dottie, who has now taken part three years in a row, said: “It’s a rare chance to see everyone all lovely, happy, and bright. No nastiness — just pure happiness and love. It makes me feel happy and young again.”
Companion Paulina added: “It’s always an emotional day. The way the public respond to our residents is just lovely. We’re sure Patrick was smiling down on us.”
