Residents Support Families in Need

Kind-hearted residents and staff at a Bournemouth care home presented freshly prepared packed lunches to help families who use their local foodbank.
A party from Colten Care’s Avon Cliff made the delivery on a visit to the St George’s hub of Bournemouth Foodbank in Haviland Road, Boscombe.
The care home, located around a mile away in nearby Christchurch Road, was a hive of activity as chefs readied the packs for the trip.
Residents Edie Crowley and James Logan were among the visitors, along with Home Manager Theresa Sales and Companionship Team Leader Paulina Trzcinska, arriving at the hub by minibus.
They were welcomed and given a tour of the foodbank’s warehouse by Steven Conn, Community Hub Manager, who discussed how people can access support, how donations are processed and how the hub operates day to day.

Steven also highlighted the scale of the operation, explaining that more than 300 volunteers contribute their time to keep the foodbank running.
Paulina said: “Our residents were deeply impressed by the dedication and organisation behind the service. They asked thoughtful questions and expressed their admiration. They are always keen to show their community spirit. Being able to visit the hub and bring a generous donation for people in need was an ideal opportunity.
“The visit not only strengthened the residents’ understanding of the challenges faced by local families but also reinforced their desire to continue supporting the community.”
Edie said: “The team is doing an amazing job.”
James said: “I was particularly inspired by the commitment of the volunteers.”
Bournemouth Foodbank’s team of staff and volunteers has grown markedly in the past three years in response to escalating local demand driven by food insecurity.
In one recent year, the foodbank distributed more than 115,000 meals to over 13,000 people, nearly 26% of whom were children.
