“All About Me” is our philosophy of care where the resident is at the heart of all that we do, helping us to achieve our primary objective of supporting residents to live a comfortable and fulfilling life in our home.
The team at Avon Cliff work with residents and their relatives to develop a full care plan for their time with us. Each resident also has a “This is Me, Now and Then” file which is a life history of anything a residents wishes to share.
These cover every aspect of care reflecting the individual needs and preferences of a resident, including medication and any physical therapies, hobbies, diet and other routines that are important in day to day life, as well as any future plans and aspirations they may have.
We encourage a can-do approach to care, with an emphasis on positive risk assessments, working in partnership with residents to enable a fulfilling life.
Avon Cliff offers an enabling environment, for example, we have discreet handrails and easy access to the gardens: residents can get around comfortably, and so feel they have some control over their lives.
For those with limited mobility, or who for other reasons might not want to participate in the community life of the home, our social carers Colten Companions offer companionship and simply have time for a chat.
“They believe in working together with you for the best outcome for your loved one, which I have not come across before, which has resulted in Mum thriving.” – Michelle C, daughter of resident at Avon Cliff
Living in a supportive environment where residents can continue to live as independently as possible and continuing doing the things they love helps to maintain a sense of purpose that is vital for an older person’s wellbeing and overall health.
Our philosophy ensures residents are treated as individuals, with individual needs, preferences and lifestyle choices support and respected by the whole team.
We want residents’ families and friends to feel welcome here at Avon Cliff, as much as they would in a private residence. There are no special visiting hours, and both children and dogs are welcome.
Visitors are welcome to join residents for meal times whenever they wish, by prior arrangement with the chef, and will not be charged if visiting once a week or less. We’re even happy to arrange private dining from time to time if you wish to celebrate a special occasion.
Families can also choose to get involved in the home’s activities programme, and our activity organisers will always be happy to develop those programmes around the talents and interests that friends and family can bring.
Nutritious Mealtimes
Food and drink are critical to our wellbeing in so many ways. All meals are prepared by our Chef in a well-equipped kitchen, using locally sourced fresh produce to provide that home from home taste. We serve proper, homemade meals with recipes developed around residents’ preferences.
Hobbies & Interests
We want every resident to enjoy each day as fully as possible, regardless of their capabilities. Recognising the individual in you, we actively encourage our residents to remain as independent as possible and continue interests and hobbies, try new activities and take up new challenges.
Minibus Trips
Each home has regular access to one of our four modern and well-equipped minibuses. The professional drivers liaise with the residents to understand their preferences and provide access through half-day or full-day trips, which include packed-lunches, snacks, hot coffee and tea.
Music & Arts
Music and the arts play important and powerful parts in all of our lives. Whether it be through storytelling, singing, drama, reading or writing poetry, dance, music and movement, we offer each resident the opportunity to explore the many ways in which music and arts can enrich their wellbeing.
Your Garden
Many of our residents have enjoyed a love of gardens and gardening throughout their lives. To ensure this passion continues, we strive to make our outdoor living spaces accessible, interactive and stimulating and encourage residents to take a keen interest in the gardens.
Housekeeping & Maintenance
Our housekeeping teams are a vital part of our care home teams. Providing the utmost respect for our residents’ private space, our housekeepers discreetly and carefully clean en-suites and rooms including residents’ own pictures, ornaments and other personal items of property.
