A Christmas Memory

At the age of one hundred, Ethel has a lifetime of memories to look back on. But among all the Christmases she has celebrated, there was one memory that stood out vividly. 

A couple of weeks ago, Ethel told us a story about how she would find half a crown every Christmas morning under her plate. To Ethel’s surprise, during Christmas lunch she found a gold half a penny under her plate that we had placed there for her. Her eyes widened in delight, and she held up the coin for everyone to see. 

“This was the best surprise ever!” she exclaimed.
