Avon Reach Residents Take to the Trails in New Forest Cycling Adventure

20 June 2025

Residents and staff from Avon Reach care home enjoyed a day out in the New Forest recently, taking part in a guided cycling experience arranged in partnership with PEDALL Inclusive Cycling.

The group travelled to PEDALL’s base at Burley Yard, where they were welcomed by trained guides who provided a full safety briefing before helping everyone get fitted to their specially adapted cycles. The initiative aims to make cycling accessible to all, regardless of age or ability.

Under clear skies and warm summer sun, the group set off on a leisurely route through the forest, taking in some of the area’s most picturesque scenery. The accessible trails allowed residents to enjoy the ride comfortably, with support from staff and volunteers along the way.

“The smiles on everyone’s faces said it all,” said Companionship Team Leader at Avon Reach, Denise Marks.

“The weather was perfect, the setting was beautiful, and it was a real joy to see our residents so engaged with the experience.”

After the ride, the group sat down for a relaxed picnic surrounded by woodland views. Residents reflected on the day and spoke of how much they had enjoyed the outing.

“It’s definitely something we’ll look to do again,” Denise added. “It was a brilliant way to combine exercise, nature, and social time in a setting that really lifted everyone’s spirits.”
