"The most rewarding and satisfying aspect of being a gardener at Avon Reach is the genuine, positive feedback received from residents, visitors and staff and the enjoyment they clearly gain from the garden.
The variety and colour of shrubs and flowers available throughout the seasons are important to residents and visitors. In summer, the colour and fragrance of the rose garden, sweet peas, and lavender at the bottom of the zig-zag walk become particularly popular and receive many favourable comments. The contrasting ornamental grasses and californian poppies at the top of the garden are also a popular aspect of the garden.
Some of our residents have also shown a keen interest in tending and harvesting our small vegetable patch, where new potatoes, strawberries, and salad crops have been well received. The annual sun flower competition also continues to generate a bit of lighthearted rivalry throughout the summer months with residents and staff alike".
