D-Day

6 June 2024

Residents were given the opportunity to watch the BBC coverage of the proceedings of how D-day affected people’s lives from the military to civilians.

Heartfelt stories were shared, and speeches were given from the king and the prime minister. After lunch the residents enjoyed a good old wartime sing-along with the help of Companion Jo, who provided the live entertainment with her singing/keyboard and occasional Kazoo solos! She sang many iconic songs of the day from like ‘Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mister Hitler’ to ‘We’ll Meet Again’.

After the entertainment residents and relatives enjoyed some delicious fairy cakes, washed down with tea and coffee. Residents stated that they really enjoyed our celebration of D-Day.

A bittersweet day, but important to celebrate and remember those times with respect and positivity.
