Scottish Celebrations

28 January 2023

Residents travelled via their armchairs to Scotland.

They arrived in the TV Lounge to the sound of bagpipes playing traditional tunes and were able to find their family crest on a string of bunting which alternated St Andrew’s flag with everyone’s unique coat of arms.  Residents enjoyed a whistle-stop tour of the ten best places to visit in Scotland. After a quiz which gave us some interesting facts about Scotland’s famous people and traditions, we took a tour of Scotland’s whisky distilleries and watched some events which form part of the Highland Games.  Afterwards, a welcome break to catch our breath and enjoy a cuppa and a choice of Walker’s traditional shortbread or Tunnocks Tea Cakes – no prizes for guessing which disappeared first!  We concluded our ‘trip’ with demonstrations of Gillie Chaluim, which translates as ‘the servant of Calum.
