"Belmore is a very rewarding garden to work in. The residents appreciate a relaxing and colourful garden, and many walk around it on a daily basis enjoying the scents and the colours of the garden. A sheltered formal garden is a haven for our residents - many of whom just enjoy the peace of sitting in the sun or shade and looking at the garden. Many of the plants are highly scented which remind them of their own gardens of past.
An active gardening club is present here and during the year all the residents who attend help produce many of the plants in the garden. During the year, we plant bulbs and sow seeds for the spring, and take many cuttings to bulk up stocks in the garden, which are all grown in a little nursery within the grounds of the garden. Recently, we have added a cutting garden to provide flowers for the home, along with a small productive vegetable garden. No two days are the same being a gardener at Belmore Lodge and it is such a great feeling when residents come up and thank you personally for providing a lovely garden for them."
