Avon Reach Celebrates Christchurch Carnival Win with Charity Donation

Our Christchurch home, Avon Reach, brought the magic of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to life at this year’s Christchurch Carnival – and came away with the prize for Best Parade Entry.
Residents, families, and team members joined forces to transform our minibus into a Wonka-inspired wonder, complete with golden tickets, sweets, and chocolate bars. Everyone got into character, dressing up as Roald Dahl favourites including Veruca Salt, Willy Wonka, and a team of Oompa-Loompas.

One of the day’s highlights was young supporter Colby, who stole the show driving his own mini electric pick-up truck decorated Wonka-style to match the theme.
“The atmosphere was full of music, laughter and celebration,” said Companionship Team Leader Denise.
“As we made our way through the parade, we handed out sweets, lollipops and Wonka bars to the crowd. Colby’s truck was a huge hit alongside our costumes and the transformation of our minibus.”
Home Manager Ruth, dressed as an Oompa-Loompa, and resident Pat, in the role of Willy Wonka, also awarded a special golden ticket to one lucky spectator, winning them a chocolate hamper.

At the closing ceremony on Christchurch Quay, we were thrilled to be announced as winners of the parade, receiving a £100 prize and the winner’s shield.
Resident Pat summed up the mood, saying: “We had a wonderful time and were even more delighted to be named winners of the parade at the end.”
In true community spirit, our residents chose to donate the £100 prize to Avon Reach’s chosen charity of the year, the Christchurch Community Partnership.
