Panto Season in Full Swing at Colten Care

Panto season is in full swing at care homes in the south with residents and staff staging their own versions of famous favourites to welcome in the New Year.

Weeks of prop making, scripting, rehearsals and sourcing costumes have culminated in various interactive performances at Colten Care homes.

The fun involves residents joining staff members from various departments, including housekeepers, nurses, carers and companions, to dress up and take on characters.

At Wellington Grange in Chichester, chosen show Dick Whittington featured a script written by Companion Antony and costumes designed and handmade by Healthcare Assistant Samantha.

To add to the occasion, Home Manager Hayley took on the role of Dick himself, gaining much applause for her energy, humour and commitment.

Companion Lana said: “Our audience was captivated from start to finish, laughing, cheering, and joining in.”

Colten Care’s Winchester care home Abbotts Barton meanwhile held a pantomime version of Red Riding Hood featuring residents and staff.

Other Colten homes that have staged performances include Avon Cliff in Bournemouth while Fernhill in Longham hosted a singalong show led by visiting panto favourite Dame Daisy.

Fernhill’s Companionship Team Leader Cara said: “The room was full of laughter, music and plenty of audience participation, with everyone encouraged to join in whatever their ability.”

Fernhill Resident Kiki told Daisy just after the show: “Don’t you look beautiful. I wish I could do my make-up like that.”

Fellow resident June , who went centre stage for a dance, said: “This is so much fun!”.
