Residents from Poole Enjoy a Scenic Ride on the Town’s Historic Railway
A group of residents from our Poole dementia care home, The Aldbury, recently enjoyed a memorable day out on the beloved Poole Park Railway.
Surrounded by sunshine, wildlife, and familiar sights, the group took a gentle journey through the park’s tranquil grounds, a moment of joy and reflection for many.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
Among the group was Valerie Sharp, who shared how the visit brought back cherished memories from her earlier years spent around Poole Harbour.
“I really enjoyed seeing all the places I remember,” said Valerie.
Joyce Holden, another resident, added:
“We had fun on a beautiful day.”
Also on the outing were Terry Pattison, Elizabeth Kay, and members of our Companionship Team, Sue Miles and Pauline Gauden.
“It was our residents’ wish to ride the train,” said Sue. “We were only too pleased to make it happen. As well as enjoying the scenery, it was a lovely opportunity for some to reconnect with familiar places from the past.”
A Relaxed Afternoon by the Water
Following the train ride, the group settled by Poole Harbour for a picnic lunch and a well-earned ice cream.
Favourite flavours on the day included blueberry, chocolate chip, and the ever-popular rum and raisin.
About Poole Park Railway
Running since 1949, the Poole Park Railway is a miniature heritage line with a 10.25-inch gauge track stretching around 700 yards through the heart of Poole Park. Operated today by BCP Council staff and local volunteers, the wheelchair-accessible train remains a cherished part of the community.
