Bourne View Marks Resident’s 90th with a Celebration to Remember

Bourne View Care Home in Poole recently hosted a heartfelt celebration for resident Joan Guilar, who marked her 90th birthday surrounded by four generations of family and the warm support of the care team.
The milestone event took place in the home’s elegant Rooftop Café, where staff helped Joan and her loved ones enjoy an afternoon of celebration. Around 20 guests, including children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren, gathered to celebrate Joan’s remarkable life and legacy.
The team at Bourne View ensured the event was a memorable one — from glasses of champagne to birthday cake, personalised speeches and poetry written by family members.
One of the most moving moments came as Joan’s son-in-law delivered a speech praising her life and character, while Joan herself took the time to thank everyone present, including staff, for their care and kindness. “She told us she didn’t want to get emotional,” said Home Manager Jacky Sylvester, “but there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.”
The Bourne View team worked closely with Joan’s family to make the celebration as personal and special as possible. “Helping to create occasions like this is one of the most meaningful parts of what we do,” added Jacky. “It’s not just about marking a birthday — it’s about recognising the individual, their story, and the people who love them.”
Other residents were also included in the celebrations and enjoyed the chance to wish Joan well. “Events like this lift everyone’s spirits — residents, families and staff alike,” said Jacky.
