Surprise Reunion Marks Harold’s 100th Birthday at Bourne View

11 July 2025

Bourne View resident Harold marked his milestone 100th birthday in style with a celebration full of surprises, including an unexpected reunion with his daughter and two granddaughters who flew in from New York to join him.

The former fighter pilot and government adviser was treated to a party organised by the home, where residents, relatives and staff gathered to honour his remarkable life.

The unexpected reunion was the highlight of a day filled with love, laughter and tributes to the former fighter pilot and government adviser. Harold, who described himself as “happy to enjoy an event without planning it” after years of organising others, was moved to see his family arrive unannounced at the home.

Home Manager Jacky said: “Harold is a beloved resident — a private and modest gentleman. To see the joy on his face when his daughter and granddaughters walked in was incredibly moving. It was the perfect way to mark such a special milestone.”

Alongside the family reunion, Harold received a royal birthday card from His Majesty the King and raised a glass of Champagne with fellow residents, relatives and staff. The party included live guitar music, a heartfelt chorus of Happy Birthday, and a “This Is Your Life” tribute featuring treasured memories shared by Harold’s granddaughter. Guests also enjoyed a cream tea and a special birthday cake.

Jacky added: “It was a privilege for us all to share in Harold’s centenary. The reunion made it a truly unforgettable day.”
