Bourne View Celebrates Burns Night

Bourne View Care Home embraced Scottish culture and tradition during a lively Burns Night celebration, bringing together residents, staff, and a special Scottish resident for a day full of warmth, laughter, and tartan.

The festivities began with a fascinating Robert Burns documentary, providing insight into the life and legacy of Scotland’s national poet and setting the scene for the celebrations to follow. Residents enjoyed pre-lunch hot toddies, which added a cosy touch and rosy cheeks all round. Lunch offered a choice of classic fish and chips or a traditional Scottish spread of haggis, tatties, and neeps.

The highlight of the afternoon came with live bagpipe music performed from the walkway above the main lounge, providing an immersive yet comfortable experience. The haggis was ceremoniously piped in, and maintenance team member Jon, with his rich Scottish accent, delivered a dramatic and heartfelt “Ode to the Haggis,” complete with the traditional ceremonial squish.

Alongside delicious food and music, residents enjoyed shortbread, refreshments, and a festive raffle. The day offered a perfect blend of culture, culinary delights, and community spirit, leaving everyone with memorable moments and a cheerful sense of connection.

Companionship Team Leader Natasha commented, “It was fantastic to bring a taste of Scotland into Bourne View. The music, food, and stories made it a truly special day for everyone.”
