Bourne View Residents Enjoy BSO Concert in Poole

Residents at Bourne View enjoyed an evening of live classical music during a special trip to Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts, where they attended a performance by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Muriel, Myrtle and Tessa were accompanied by Companion Richard and members of the Bourne View team for the outing, which offered the opportunity not only to hear the orchestra perform but also to meet several musicians before the concert began.
The residents spent time speaking with French horn player Kevin Pritchard, trombonist Robb Tooley, violinist Jenni Curiel and violist Judith Preston, all of whom made the group feel warmly welcomed.
For each resident, the evening held particular significance.
Muriel studied music at university, later teaching and lecturing in music at the University of Aberdeen, and previously played the harpsichord. Several members of her family are also trained musicians.
Myrtle’s love of classical music began early in life, when she received a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music.
Tessa had regularly attended Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra concerts at Lighthouse in the past and had long hoped to return after several years away.
Muriel said: “I would like to thank Bourne View for organising such a wonderful evening. It was so nice to meet the musicians, and my daughter, who used to be a member of the BSO, also joined us and knew many of the musicians we met.”
Tessa added: “I was amazed we got to meet the musicians as well as see such a wonderful concert. We felt like royalty for the evening.”
Myrtle described the outing as “a very exciting evening. I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful music and wonderful atmosphere inside the auditorium.”
Companion Richard said: “Music has played an important part in each of these residents’ lives, so it was rewarding to help them reconnect with something that means so much to them. The musicians were incredibly generous with their time and made the evening even more special.”
The concert reflected Bourne View’s commitment to creating meaningful experiences that enable residents to revisit lifelong interests and remain connected with the cultural life of the local community.
