Book Club – ‘The War Horse’

1 February 2023

Every Wednesday evening we have ‘Book Club’.

Janet says it is her favourite time of the week and she always looks forward to it.

About half a dozen residents, and Corinne our Colten companion, gather around the fire. The chef provides some nibbles, and we then sit back and listen to Corinne read aloud. The books are chosen by the residents from a selection that is brought in from the local library.

We have just finished reading ‘The War Horse’ by Michael Morpurgo. It was a fantastic story of World War II from the perspective of ‘Joey’ a tremendously brave horse that was bought from a farm by the army at the beginning of the war. The highlights and tragedy were all so poignant and at times there was not a dry eye in the room.

After such a fantastic book we decided to take a week out and read poetry – which you can see Kathleen, Wendy and Peter pondering over in this photo.
