Bourne View Repair Shop

17 February 2023

The residents of Bourne View assisted us in creating our Activity Planner by suggesting activities they would like to attend.

One of their ideas was to host a ‘repair shop’ afternoon. The residents felt that although they could always request items to be fixed, they wanted to attempt fixing things themselves. So, that’s exactly what we did.

We set up various stations, such as sewing, gluing, painting, and even a small carpentry station. The residents brought along items that needed mending or adjusting, such as shoes, blouses, ornaments, and jewellery. The Companionship Team assisted the residents in repairing their items where possible. We mixed acrylic paints to do some patchwork, searched for matching buttons for old ones, and even looked for replica jewels for a brooch.

The residents were thrilled with the outcome. For instance, Joan had an original photo frame from when her children were little, and had previously been advised that it might not be repairable. However, with the help of Corinne, a hammer, and some nails, it is now as good as new! We are pleased with the result and excited to see what we will be doing next time!
