Ocean Day – Sensory Experience with Langside School
Here at Bourne View, we’ve had an incredible time creating pictures and sculptures for a fantastic ‘Fishy’ display in celebration of World Ocean Day.
Our residents have dedicated hours of their time assisting Julie in developing ideas for our Aquatic Art Walk theme. We had the pleasure of welcoming children and staff from Langside School, a school for children with disabilities, into our home.
Yvonne Glover was particularly delighted to meet the children and thoroughly enjoyed playing a fishing game with Gemma. Despite the significant age difference between them, they shared a determined spirit to catch the fish, exchanging many smiles and basking in the applause of onlookers each time they succeeded.
As part of our sensory walk, there were numerous displays that the children could touch or spin. The gentle breeze outside caused the decorations to sway, catching the light in a captivating manner. We also provided bubble wands, which the children adored, a paint table where they could create handprint pictures to take home, water and shells for interactive play, and a relaxing coral reef video playing in the background. Additionally, there was an impromptu sing-along led by Nicky.
Wendy Barnes and Peter Prior were among the other residents who contributed to the artwork creation. Terry Tuck, Norah, and Peter also joined us to meet the children today and delighted in witnessing their reactions to the display we had prepared. Everyone unanimously agreed that it had been a magical morning, and we eagerly look forward to welcoming Langside School back to Bourne View soon for another fun-filled and interactive experience.
