Place Your Bets please…

Residents had fun at the races recently, with drinks flowing and a flutter on the horses – everyone was in high spirits.

First of all, we picked a number out of a bag to determine which horse we were about to back, then all studied the odds and made a note of our jockey’s colours.

Next, we decided how much we wanted to risk from the monopoly style money we had started with (£4ooo each tonight). Some were cautious, others placed their bets according to their predictions after looking at their horse’s odds, but a few were daring and risked a larger amount in the hopes of a big win … there was a great deal of friendly banter and rivalry in the run up to each race.

Finally, everyone settled, and it was time for the race to start – as we watched the horses and listened to the commentary, the excitement level rose. We were all transfixed seeing our horse’s progress and willing them on. We watched three races tonight and each race had a different winner – there were groans from the losers, cheers from the lucky few who had won and a payout for Diane, Peter, and Joyce!

We all decided it had been a very enjoyable fun-filled evening which we will be repeating soon.
