Braemar Lodge Hosts Annual Pub Quiz in Support of Salisbury Hospice Charity

The ever-popular Braemar Arms Annual Pub Quiz made its return this year, this time in the newly completed Dining Room and Terrace Room at Braemar Lodge.
With more than 30 residents, family members, staff and local guests in attendance, the event made full use of the new space.
This marked Braemar Lodge’s first fundraiser of the year, held in aid of the Salisbury Hospice Charity. Donations were raised through raffle ticket sales and table entry fees, with participants all competing for the chance to have their team name engraved on the coveted Braemar Arms Pub Quiz Shield.
Teams of varying sizes were welcomed with drinks before the evening got underway. BRCTL Graham introduced the format for the night, with the quiz kicking off just before the arrival of hot basket meals. Round 1 challenged teams to identify countries from outline maps, and also saw the naming of each team, last year’s champions boldly choosing “The 2024 Champs”.
With meals enjoyed and heads down in concentration, the evening continued into Round 2: a brand logo identification challenge, served alongside pudding. Round 3 followed with the first half of a general knowledge quiz, before pausing for the eagerly anticipated raffle.
Home Manager Jackie led the raffle draw, with prizes awarded to cheers and applause. Each table had at least one lucky winner—some of whom even shared their chocolate prizes over coffee.
Round 4 resumed with more general knowledge questions, and scores were closely matched. A final history round was selected by the residents, and after some tough questions, two teams remained tied for first place: The Quintets (including resident Terry Martin’s family and Home Manager Jackie) and The Clements Clan.
With the Terrace Room filled with spectators, a tense tie-break followed. Three final questions were posed, and The Clements Clan emerged victorious with a narrow 3–2 win.
The evening closed with thanks to all staff involved in preparing, catering, hosting and supporting the event, which received fantastic feedback. Roma, daughter of resident Ian, commented:
“Thank you! That was the best evening I’ve had for ages. I just love what Braemar Lodge does for its residents!”
In total, the evening raised over £160 for Salisbury Hospice Charity. Charity Manager Louise Compton later wrote:
“Thank you so much. I hope the quiz went well—what a fantastic amount raised! A massive thank you.”
The Braemar Arms Pub Quiz continues to be a firm favourite on the calendar—offering fun, connection, and community spirit, all in support of a good cause.
