Braemar Lodge launches 501-mile charity trek for Salisbury Hospice

8 June 2025

Residents and staff at Braemar Lodge Care Home in Salisbury have officially launched an ambitious 501-mile trek in support of The Salisbury Hospice Charity.

The fundraising challenge, which symbolically charts the distance from Braemar Lodge to the village of Braemar in Scotland, was set in motion with a launch event on Thursday 1st May. The afternoon featured live musical entertainment and a strong turnout from residents, families, and team members.

The initiative will see residents and staff work together to cover 501 miles by walking one of five measured local routes. Some participants will walk the distances themselves, while others will assist by pushing residents in wheelchairs.

The home has put systems in place to record the miles covered and log donations, including a pledge sheet and a booking-in/out system.

A fundraising “thermometer” will be displayed in Braemar Lodge’s reception to show how the team is progressing both in distance and funds raised.

Graham Ballard, Companionship Team Leader at Braemar Lodge, said:

“It was a brilliant afternoon to kick off what we hope will be a meaningful and rewarding journey. Everyone is getting behind the cause — whether walking, supporting from the sidelines, or simply helping to keep spirits high. Salisbury Hospice Charity is a vital part of our community and we’re proud to support it in this way.”

The trek will continue over the coming weeks until the team reaches their 501-mile target. Braemar Lodge is welcoming support from the wider community and encouraging donations to help boost the impact of the challenge.
