Strong Turnout for Braemar Lodge Garden Party in Support of Salisbury Hospice

Residents, families, and staff at Braemar Lodge came together for a well-attended garden party this summer, marking the first major event held in the newly landscaped Bowtie Garden since the home’s January move into its extended facilities.
The event took place under sunny skies, with gazebos strategically placed to provide shade across the garden’s level pathways and sitting areas. The garden’s central water feature offered a pleasant backdrop for the afternoon’s festivities.
On arrival, guests were offered a glass of Pimm’s, with cream teas available for a small donation. Entertainment came courtesy of local shanty singing group The Navy Larks, whose set was warmly received, along with a handbell performance by a trio of residents led by Companion Jane.

Several stalls lined the garden paths, selling everything from handmade jewellery and wax melts to bric-a-brac, cards, and plants. Many of the plants were grown on-site in the Braemar Lodge greenhouse under the care of gardener Sarah and resident Terry, who also helped run the stall on the day. Fellow resident Ian offered his support on the popular bottle stall, where prizes included mystery bottles of wine.
Another crowd favourite was the ‘barrow of booze’ — a wheelbarrow filled with assorted alcoholic drinks — won by a family member from the Companionship Team.
A range of raffle prizes donated by local businesses, families, and friends added to the day’s success. Prizes included meals out, attraction tickets, and handcrafted dolls made by Care Lead Petra. Companion Kelly oversaw ticket sales, with proceeds going to Salisbury Hospice Charity. Louise Compton from the charity attended the event, providing promotional materials and card readers to support donations.

Children were catered for with traditional games, including hook-a-duck and a stocks setup, where guests had the chance to throw wet sponges at game volunteer and housekeeping team member Martin.
Home Manager Jackie Cash closed the afternoon by thanking everyone for their contributions and support.
“We’re so grateful to all who made the day possible—from our residents and staff to the families, volunteers, and local businesses who donated prizes,” she said. “It’s fantastic to see the community come together for such a good cause.”
Although final figures are still being confirmed, organisers estimate the event raised close to £1,000 for Salisbury Hospice.
