Braemar Lodge Joins Silver Salisbury’s Vintage Tea Party

8 October 2025

Residents from Braemar Lodge care home in Salisbury enjoyed a memorable afternoon at a Vintage Tea Party held in the city’s historic Guildhall. The event, hosted by local charity Silver Salisbury, aimed to bring older people together and reduce loneliness by encouraging active involvement in the community.

Six residents attended the celebration, accompanied by members of the Companionship Team and the Colten Care driver. On arrival, they were greeted with a warm cup of tea before the afternoon was officially opened by the 764th Mayor of Salisbury, John Wells.

Entertainment came from local folk group Maerefolk, whose lively and heartfelt music filled the Banqueting Hall. One of the musicians, whose mother-in-law is a Braemar Lodge resident, took time during the interval to chat with residents — a moment that made the occasion feel even more personal.

Guests enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea of sandwiches, cakes, and scones, while joining in with the music and rhythms of Maerefolk’s second set. Surrounded by portraits of past mayors and royalty, the atmosphere was one of warmth, laughter, and shared community spirit.

Speaking after the event, Companionship Team Leader Graham said:

“Our residents really value opportunities to connect with the wider community, and Silver Salisbury provides such a fantastic platform for that. It was a wonderful afternoon of friendship, music and memories — and we’re already looking forward to taking part in more local events.”

Braemar Lodge continues to explore ways to engage with Silver Salisbury’s ongoing programme of social activities, which are designed to promote wellbeing and inclusion among older people across the city.
