Braemar Shortlisted for Knight Frank Award

Colten Care’s Braemar Lodge in Salisbury has been shortlisted in the Care Home Renovation Award category at the 2026 Knight Frank Luxury Care Home Awards, recognising the home’s extensive transformation and commitment to creating an exceptional environment for residents.
The annual awards celebrate excellence in care home design, innovation and hospitality across the UK, with more than 200 submissions received from over 60 care providers.
The Care Home Renovation Award highlights projects that demonstrate outstanding heritage preservation, redesign and repositioning, recognising developments that have successfully transformed existing care homes for the future.

Braemar Lodge reopened in October 2025 following an ambitious redevelopment that combined the refurbishment and extension of the original building with a significant new-build element.
The completed home now offers 95 bedrooms, including 89 with en-suite wet rooms, alongside beautifully designed communal spaces and landscaped gardens that support comfort, independence and social engagement.

The redevelopment has carefully balanced modern design with the home’s long-established reputation for high-quality care.
Bright, spacious lounges and dining areas, a welcoming central reception and improved accessibility throughout the home have created an environment that enables residents to live with greater confidence while enjoying meaningful opportunities to spend time with family, friends and fellow residents.
Many bedrooms now benefit from direct access to the gardens, while private en-suite accommodation provides residents with greater dignity, comfort and a genuine sense of home.

The project also presented significant engineering challenges. Limited site access required specialist temporary structural works to extend the building by two metres, while a Spyder Crane was used to install first-floor steelwork during construction, enabling the ambitious redesign to be successfully delivered.
A spokesperson for Colten Care said: “We are delighted that Braemar Lodge has been recognised by the Knight Frank Luxury Care Home Awards. The redevelopment has transformed the home while preserving everything that residents and families have always valued about it.
Every aspect of the design has been carefully considered to support wellbeing, independence and everyday enjoyment, creating a welcoming environment where exceptional care and thoughtfully designed surroundings come together.”

The shortlist recognises the vision, collaboration and expertise behind one of Colten Care’s most significant redevelopment projects. It also reflects the organisation’s continued investment in creating environments that enhance residents’ daily lives while meeting the evolving expectations of modern care.
Winners of the Knight Frank Luxury Care Home Awards will be announced at the Global Healthcare Property Lunch, where leaders from across the sector come together to celebrate excellence in care home development and innovation.
